It is important to read below about how to become accredited and qualify for the Restricted Licence before you apply.

The Restricted Licence (R-Licence) allows you to hunt game and feral animals on public land that has been declared and opened to hunting, or on private land with the permission of the landholder.

Note: you must download and submit a PDF form to upgrade from a NSW General Standard Licence to an R-Licence, or to request a replacement licence.

How to seek accreditation

If you would like to seek accreditation for the R-Licence you can:

  •   •  complete the online R-Licence Accreditation Course, or contact your local club and see if they are a Hunter LEAP Provider and have nominated Trainers.

Qualifying

R-Licence applicants must:

  • be over 12 years
  • be a member of an Approved Hunting Organisation
  • become accredited for one or more of the R-licence categories:
    • Firearms
    • Bows
    • Dogs
    • Blackpowder firearms
  • have parent or guardian approval if over the age of 12 and under 18 years
  • pay the licence fee

Approved Hunting Organisations

Before qualifying for an R-licence, you must become a member of an Approved Hunting Organisation (AHO). You must also maintain your membership for your R-licence to remain valid. There are close to 200 AHOs registered in NSW.

You will be asked to provide proof of your membership when you apply.

Applying

Once you have become a member of an AHO and completed the accreditation requirements you need to apply to the NSW Department of Primary Industries. Use this link to apply online.

Applications not containing all the required information will be returned to the applicant.
